Dear Prospective Employer, My name is Jennifer Aguilar Espero. I have just turned 36 years old last August 21. I was born 1970. My father, Jesus E. Espero is already deceased. I have a 64 year old mother, whom I consider as my foremost inspiration. Her name is Melita Aguilar-Espero. My mother raised us well, she is a loving, disciplinarian but considerate and a hardworking mother. We are five siblings in the family. My eldest brother, Julius Espero, is a public school teacher, the two elder sisters, Yvette Espero-Igarta and Louella Espero-Nuguid, are graduates of business administration. Fortunately, we consider as our youngest sister an adopted child since birth Abigail, studied nursing but preferred to get married. By character, I am hardworking, trustworthy, patient, thoughtful, persevering and have a lot of initiative. I work very well even with minimal supervision from my employer. But best of all, I have a keen sense of humor. I believe that it is best to work more than I could talk and by being cheerful in order to give better output in work. I am a flexible person; I can work with different types of people as long as they will respect me as a person I graduated from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines last 1992 where I finished Bachelor of Industrial Psychology. I applied and accepted work in Hong Kong as domestic helper. This not only helped to provide support for the immediate needs of my family in the Philippines, but also continuously improves my care giving skills. My work includes taking care of the house chores like cleaning, doing the laundry, marketing, and cooking. What I enjoy most with my present job is taking care of this little boy, I enjoyed taking care of him, and I played with him, tell him stories and taught him good values as well. It was also challenging because it tested my temper and patience, as days goes by I adjusted myself and learned to love and treat the little boy like my relative. I also learned to adopt their culture and their way of life. My main priority is caring for a four ½ year old boy, making sure of his personal care and hygiene, taking him to the school and fetching him back home. During my free time, I see to it that he is tutored to follow up his lessons in school. My background in psychology is very important in understanding the behavior of the boy, whom I am now starting to treat as my own nephew. I am fortunate for having considerate employers who both work as educators in one of the best schools in Hong Kong. My present job requires me to cook and I find it interesting. I learned Chinese cuisine, I feel comfortable in the kitchen in learning how to cook various kinds of dishes. When I was still new with my employer the problem I encountered is the language, I find it difficult to understand the Chinese culture with regards to individual personality, family and environment. I observe and made adjustment to myself, I strive and exerted my effort to prove to my employer that I am capable for the job and earned their trust on me. I make my employer’s life easier because I wake up early in the morning and prepare breakfast so that my employer can eat before they leave for work, I clean the house and put things into proper places, I bring the child to the doctor when the child got sick while my employer was out of the country; and assisting the child with his homework & revision on assessment period. What I do for fun I love I listen to music and eat my favorite food. Going out with some friends and watching concerts on video. And what would make me happy is to a stable job. I have not arrested in any kind of trouble, I don’t use alcohol or drugs, and I don’t have any dietary restriction and requirement. I enjoy outdoor activities with children like running, jogging and playing bowling and badminton I did not experienced worst thing in my job, but there are memorable events/things that happened. For one instance, while washing the clothes the chemical detergent splashed on my eyes, it became irritated. The most difficult thing I did in my life was when I decided to work abroad and leave my family. I missed them but I’ve overcome the feelings after a month because I am determined to reach my goal in life, to support my family and to have a better life, which I believe I can only attain when I get a job in Canada. The three most important things for me in choosing a new job are as follows, first the job requirement is related to my educational background/ skills, I can share my knowledge and work experience; and offered good compensation and upgrade the living condition of my family. When I was a child, my mother raised me according to the Christian teachings and Filipino values/disciplined. My mother taught me to respect people especially the elders, to study hard in order to reach my ambition and to be independent, to obey house rules and to love God above all. Also my elder siblings showered me with their love and affection that made me becomes a loving and a better person. I will follow the way my family raised me when I was a child. I want to work in Canada because I learned that Canada is offering job opportunities. I also want to explore my new things/learning. Working in Canada offers better working conditions and benefits which guides me to work even harder and aspire higher to see beautiful places in Canada and experience a prosperous family living. My future plan is to have a stable job, to support the studies of my family, to build a house for my mother and to travel around the world. And my aspiration in life is to become an immigrant in Canada. I dream of giving the best for my mother during her old days, and the hope of providing better education for my nieces and nephews. I also dream of having a stable economic status someday. These inspirations guide me to work even harder, and aspire higher moral values in life. Thank you for giving me a chance to say something about myself and my work here in Hong Kong. I’m looking forward to hear from you. Have a nice day. Respectfully yours,
JENNIFER ESPERO
